Frequently Asked Questions
What is the FANS technology in the Manawa Suction sheath? +
FANS (Flexible Active Negative-pressure Sheath) is a bendable ureteral access sheath with integrated suction. The deflectable distal tip allows active aspiration of stone fragments and dust directly at the calyx during RIRS, helping maintain low intrarenal pressure.
What sizes and lengths does the Manawa Suction FANS come in? +
The Manawa FANS is available in 8F/10F, 9.5F/11.5F, 10.7F/12.7F, and 12F/14F outer/inner diameters with working lengths of 20, 28, 35, 45, and 55 cm. The 10F sheath accepts ureteroscopes of 6.3F with no compromise on the irrigation flow.
How does the suction connection work? +
The proximal handle of the Manawa FANS connects via a standard luer-lock to wall suction or a dedicated stone-fragment evacuation pump. Suction can be modulated intra-operatively without removing the scope.
Is the Manawa Suction sheath single-use? +
Yes. The Manawa FANS is supplied sterile (EO) and is intended for single-use. It is CE-marked under EU MDR 2017/745 and manufactured under ISO 13485.
How does the Manawa FANS help reduce intrarenal pressure during RIRS? +
By aspirating fluid and fragments at the calyx in real time, the FANS sheath maintains low intrarenal pressure during ureteroscopy — an important factor for reducing post-operative infectious complications. See our clinical guide on intrarenal pressure during RIRS for details.
